Organic Neem Oil – Herbal Elixir


There are a number of spices from India that are now gaining traction all over the world for their usefulness and the way they can be substituted for harmful factory-made synthetic chemicals in many ways. Organic Neem oil is one such product that has a wide range of uses.


The biological name for neem is Azadirachta indica, it is also called the Indian Lilac. It is native to India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and countries south of it. The tree is of the Mahogany family and its fruits and seeds are the sources of neem oil. It is an evergreen tree, but severe drought can put off the tree and may go into a state similar to hibernation where all the leaves fall off.

Medicinal Uses of organic neem oil

Neem is a tree that is highly revered in India, where it takes an important place in their ancient medicine. The thing about neem is that every part of the tree is useful. The leaves, fruits, bark, roots, flowers, and even wood, all of them are used in some way or the other. It’s an active ingredient called Nimbidin is what does most of the work. Neem has been found to have the following properties:

  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Antiarthritic
  • Antipyretic
  • Hypoglycaemic
  • Antigastric ulcer
  • Spermicidal
  • Antifungal
  • Antibacterial
  • Diuretic

While a lot of these claims are still under study and trial, they have been in use in the Indian subcontinent for over 2000 years now.

Organic Neem oil for skin

Neem is also popular as a skincare agent. It’s antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal properties make it perfect for use on skin. Neem oil is often used to treat and in some cases cure skin irritation, rashes, allergies, and other topical issues. Most people use neem oil for skin. The organic neem oils are also used in making face washes that are used to get rid of acne and control oily skin. Apart from neem oil, if you can find neem powder, you can make a paste out of it and apply it directly to the face to get rid of blemishes and other pimples and such.

  • Removing blackheads

    Use neem oil for skin, If you have a blackhead outburst, neem oil can be put to great use. Dilute a few drops of organic neem oil in a cup of water, make it warm, as warm as you can take. Dip a small piece of cotton or a sponge applicator and rub the mix over your skin. Let it sit for a few minutes, repeat if you need to. Don’t use too much oil, just a few drops, this not only helps get rid of the blackheads, but it also prevents it from resurfacing. 

  • As a bathing oil

    Use organic neem oil for the face as you would any other essential oil. A few drops in warm bathwater should work as a relaxing way to get rid of infections. It should work towards a generally improved skin health. The smell of neem oil will take a little getting used to. It has a strong herbal smell that you will grow to love.

  • Getting rid of acne

    Prepare a concoction with a few orange peels in water, boil it out till it becomes a mushy pulp, add a few drops of neem oil to it, mash it into a paste and apply to your face like a pack. Wash it off once dry. Do this once a week for a few weeks, you should be able to notice the difference. Best neem oil for skin.

  • Skin blemishes

    Under-eye dark circles are a bane to people who have to forgo sleep and work excessively, which is pretty much everyone. Make a paste with neem, tulsi (holy basil), sandal, and rosewater, apply, go to sleep. Wash off in the morning.  


Using Neem oil for hair

Use Neem Oil for hair, Neem can be used on all hair types, from flowy straight hair to bushy, springy hair. Neem can be used to enhance hair growth when applied to the scalp. Its anti-fungal properties make it a prime cure for dandruff and its related issues. Apply neem oil to the hair through a carrier oil like coconut oil, mixed in the proportion you want and apply it to your hair, let it soak in for a few hours before washing it off. Neem is a great way to get rid of lice. It is an insecticide as well, so hair lice should be taken care of quite easily. Use organic neem oil for hair in different manners.

Neem is also a great insect repellant. Over the years, neem oil is known to get rid of at least 200 insect species. If you want to get rid of beetles, roaches, mosquitoes, mites, worms, neem is one of the best natural ways to do it.  


On a side note, make sure you are not allergic to neem before using it. Consult your doctor before you begin to include neem in your everyday. Neem is, for the most part, hypoallergenic, but it is better to be safe than sorry.
